Diagnostic Needs Assessment
The Diagnostic Needs Assessment is a short survey that helps The Aesculapius Foundation understand where veterinary diagnostic capability is strongest, where it is thinnest, and what practitioners actually need. It directs how the Foundation prioritises training, educational resources, equipment grants, and evaluation work.
In brief
- Takes roughly 8–10 minutes
- No cost data or client records requested
- Responses are confidential and used for programme planning only
- Aggregate findings inform grant priorities and free educational resources
Who this is for
The assessment is written for anyone making or influencing diagnostic decisions in an animal-care setting:
- General and mixed-animal veterinary practices
- Rural, mobile, and ambulatory services
- Shelters, rescues, and community clinics
- Farm, herd, and livestock operations
- Veterinary technicians and practice managers
- Educators and training programmes
What it covers
Questions focus on capability and constraint rather than performance. There are no wrong answers, and “we don’t currently do this” is often the most useful response:
- Which diagnostics are run in-house versus sent to a reference laboratory
- Equipment currently in use, and gaps that affect care
- Turnaround times and how they shape clinical decisions
- Staff training and confidence interpreting results
- Barriers to expanding diagnostic capability
- Which educational resources would be most useful
How responses are used
Responses are reviewed in aggregate to identify patterns across settings, species, and regions. They shape which equipment categories the grant programme prioritises, which topics the Resource Library covers next, and which diagnostic tools are worth independent evaluation. Individual responses are not published, and no organisation is identified in any summary or report.
Take the assessment
If a question does not apply to your setting, leave it blank and continue.
