Help build a clearer picture of veterinary care costs.
Veterinary bills provide real-world information about the services animal owners receive and the amounts charged. The Aesculapius Foundation’s Vet Costs Project is building a research dataset from invoices contributed voluntarily and processed under documented controls before approved research use.
Before you begin
- Have your invoice ready as a PDF or photo; a clear phone photo is fine.
- You can upload more than one file from the same veterinary practice.
- You will be asked to type your name as an electronic signature and agree to the data license terms.
- The insurance, payment, affordability, hardship, and treatment-impact questions are optional and may be skipped.
What happens to your invoice
Your contact details and original invoice images are retained in restricted systems. Software may extract approved research fields, records that trigger validation exceptions are withheld for review, and a periodic sample of otherwise accepted records receives human quality review.
Personal contact information is not included in approved research or public outputs. Original invoices may still contain identifying information, and veterinary-practice information may be retained for internal research and reviewed before any public practice-level use.
Only approved, de-identified information may be used in public research reports or summaries. Public presentation of practice-level information is subject to Foundation review, policy, and applicable law.
Why line-item detail matters
Invoice wording varies. The project preserves original wording while mapping approved fields to standard categories so submissions can be compared across practices, species, and regions.
A note on what this is not. This is not a billing dispute service, and the Foundation cannot review, contest, or intervene in charges from your veterinary practice. Contributed invoices are used for research and education.
